About Us

Scenically situated on the Hastings River in the middle of great agricultural farmland, Wauchope is now a thriving regional centre for the surrounding district and business community.

In close proximity (an easy 20 min drive) to the major city of Port Macquarie, Wauchope makes an ideal base for exploring everything the Hastings region has to offer.

With the historical distinction of shipping out more timber over the years, than any other town in Australia, Wauchope has now expanded into the agriculture, dairy and tourism sectors. Although boasting a population of over 7,500 these days, Wauchope has managed to maintain the warmth, friendliness and the feel of ‘small-town’ hospitality which visitors can enjoy.

The region’s main city of Port Macquarie is host to the Iron Man Triathlon which is held in May each year and attracts an International field of professional competitors each year. With a field of 1,800 competitors, the 2015 event was well worth attending.

Timber Town

Situated in almost 35 hectares of stunningl forest, the visitor will discover a complete village, re-created to show the battles and achievements of our early settlers. A completely authentic historic township, where timber is still sawn and hauled by a bullock team and you can also enjoy a scenic trip on a steam-driven train and carriages. Complete with authentic sounds and aromas of coal-fired steam engines, and the smell of freshly milled timber, Timber Town should definitely be in your ‘Bucket List’ when visiting Wauchope and the Hastings.

The Timbertown sawmill and much of its equipment was originally built and located on the Allyn River at the foothills of the Barrington Tops. The mill opened in 1943 to process timber close to its source and ceased operating in December 1970. It was purchased by Timbertown and reassembled here in 1977.

Located on the Oxley Highway at Wauchope, this major visitor attraction features entertainment for the entire family and is open every day, except Christmas Day.
